Description
This Satsuma disk exemplifies the popularity of Japanese artistry in the late 19th and early 20th century. Satsuma ware was well received at international exhibitions due to its artistic, naturalistic miniatures, unfading colours and characteristic cream crackled glaze. Subsequently the export trade in Satsuma ware became very profitable. The Meroogal collection has several domed Satsuma disks that have been buttons, buckles or studs that most probabaly belonged to June Wallace's aunts.
