Textile length, 'Kaivo' pattern, design by Maija Isola for Marimekko, Finland, 1965
Description
This textile is a vintage print, a full roll width selvedge to selvedge, of Marimekko's 'Kaivo' fabric. The first license to sell Marimekko in Australia was attained by Russell Whitechurch, but the interior designer Marion Hall Best (Marion Best Pty Ltd) had been using Marimekko textiles in her design schemes in the 1950s. Marion Best sometimes used long drops or 'banners' of Marimekko and other textiles in her interior design schemes instead of using the fabric for curtaining or blinds.

The Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection holds a number of samples of Marimekko fabrics including the same 'Kaivo' design in different colourways.
