Description
This miner’s pick was once used in the mining of underground gold in the mid to late 19th century gold rush in NSW. Although it has no clear provenance, it is likely it was once used on the NSW goldfields. A pick was a standard tool used by miners on the Australian goldfields, to retrieve underground gold, that was brought in enormous quantities (some still contained in quartz rock) to the Sydney Royal Mint for sale and then processing into gold sovereigns.
