Description
Rare, early upholstered footstool of Australian cedar (Toona ciliata) of Tasmanian origin c. 1820. The sides feature a double down-turned acanthus foliate scroll, defining a concave shape for the top of the piece. The piece rests on four outstretched sabre legs. The top has been recovered in a chestnut damask weave horsehair fabric, with en suite gimp. The hessian underside of the piece suggests that the original upholstery (apart from the top covering) has survived.
