Description
A View of Sydney from Bellmount, 1811, artist unknown. This watercolour relates to an engraving, View of Sydney in New South Wales (Taken from Bellmount), which was published by James Whittle and Richard H. Laurie, London, 12 April 1814. Bellmont or Bellmount has not been positively identified but the artist appears to have stood on the high ground, near present-day Vaucluse. The appearance of Indigenous people in the foreground is a common convention of the time.
