Wallpaper, "Reine des Pres" design, circa 1973
Description
This wallpaper is part of a large collection of furnishing samples supplied by interior designers, Marion Best Pty Ltd, for redecoration of a house in Neutral Bay, Sydney, between 1964 and 1976. The wallpaper was installed in a young girl's bedroom c1973. Marion Best Pty Ltd often supplied clients with sample boards which comprised small samples such as wallpaper, curtain and upholstery fabric, carpet, blinds, and paint colours, which formed the basis of a proposed room furnishing scheme. A 1973 sample board in the collection for 'Bedroom 3' includes this wallpaper in two different colourways.

The first appearance of this wallpaper in Australia appears to have been at the 1958 French Fair in Melbourne. A rendition in a green colourway appeared in the Australian Home Beautiful for October 1958.
