Description
This valance dates to around 1910. It is made from gold plush velvet and silk moire and has been embellished with intricate threadwork, embroidery and fringed braid.
A valance is a piece of drapery used to decorate furnishings in the home such as windows, beds shelves and fireplaces. The practice of draping interior features was fashionable in the 19th century and continued into the first quarter of the 20th century. Valances were produced using a multitude of furnishing fabrics and trims.
