Description
The elegant batiste day dress and matching white overdress are elaborately machine embroidered in white with patterns of dots, leaves and scallops, possibly made in India or the Philippines. The dress is a simple shape with embroidery increasing towards the hem. Its V-neckline matches the heavily embroidered neck of the overdress. The three quarter magyar sleeves were typically fashionable in 1910-1915. The overdress falls as tails at front and back. Suitable as a wedding outfit, some members of the family believe Kathleen was engaged to be married to Norman Pearce who was sadly killed in battle in 1916. The waist and hem appear to have been altered at a later date, perhaps to fit Nina and it has definitely been worn, as the hem edge is soiled.
