Description
This is one of six glass plates and shallow bowls, probably used as serving dishes for cakes and sweet treats. These items were purchased by Harry Seidler from the United States together with a range of other furniture and furnishings for Rose Seidler House, which he designed in Sydney (1948-50) for this parents, Rose and Max. For Seidler, the design and furnishing of the interiors was of equal importance as the exterior of the house. The simple design of this group of glass plates probably appealed to Seidler as they were not ostentatious but practical, especially since Harry's mother Rose was a noted cook and these plates would have been very useful to serve her Viennese cakes and treats to family and the many guests who visited Rose Seidler House.
