Description
The stylish cream silk blouse may have been worn by Kathleen Rouse (1878-1932) and dates from about 1910-1915. It is professionally made by machine and has a European size '34' label inside suggesting it may have been bought on one of her trips. The high stand collar is stiffened by two overstitched bones, possibly whalebone, and has a narrow fall decorated with faggotting. The blouse opens down the front fastening with thirteen mother of pearl buttons. At each side are vertical rows of faggotting trimmed with four matching buttons. From the shoulder yoke falls a loose sleeve with a pointed cuff fastening with 2 large buttons joined as cuff links.
