Description
Handmade calico sunbonnet with internal cane supports. Bow at back with ties. A replica of an early Victorian cotton sun bonnet said to have belonged to Elizabeth Macarthur (1766 - 1850). The original is held by the Macarthur family (c 1840s).
The Historic Houses Trust of NSW (now Museums of History New South Wales) commissioned the reproduction to be made for use in education programmes and for house presentation purposes at Elizabeth Farm. Acquisitions in the Elizabeth Farm collection emphasise the period of occupation by the Macarthur family (1793-1850) and in particular by the period following the completion of the house in its present form (c 1826).
