Stoneware assayer's crucible and collection of related objects
Description
Stoneware assayer's crucible and related objects. It is unclear if all these objects were used together at the same time, or came together as a group periodically.
Part 1 Crucible - Cream coloured stoneware crucible, circular with a slight lip in the rim for pouring. Tapers to a smaller diameter at base.
Part 2 Metal crucible stand - also known as a tripod, circular with three splaid legs, surface level rust
Part 3 Metal crucible stand - also known as a tripod, triangular with three splaid legs that kink out half way down, surface level rust
Part 4 Metal crucible tongs - dark metal tongs with scissor like handle, with pivoting pin join two thirds of the way along, ends meet together with circular section for holding rounded objects
Part 5 Metal assaying ladle - grey metal ladle of small flat bottom pan soldered to a long handle with curved top
Part 6 Soldering iron - timber handled metal tool with solid metal block attached to end in a pointed rectangular pyramid form. 'PLUMB / 'AUS' on one side, '18' on another and '24' on another.
Part 7 Welding tool - Heavy block of metal with 'Thermit Acme' cast text in top, grey in colour, jagged edges at left hand side
Part 8 Bunsen burner - circular metal base with one vertical pipe and a smaller short horizontal pipe. Moulded 'TOWNSON AND MERCER/AUST PTD LTD'.
Part 9 Bunsen burner - circular metal base with one vertical pipe and a smaller short horizontal pipe. Additional metal piece of pipe at top with four small screws in it.
