Description
Menu card from the "Hotel Continental" vue de Castiglione & vue de Rivoli Paris. A lithographic illustration adorning the front of the card depicts three characters; one holds open a cookbook, the second is sitting on a pot handle, stirring a steaming pot, and the third is seated on a tiled floor, scraping an oversize carrot. All are wearing vaguely historical costume, with white ruffled collars and caps. Behind them on the walls hang various pots & pans. The name of the Hotel and its address are in thethe top lefthand corner and in the lower lefthand corner is the printers name, "Lith. F. Appel, Paris". There is a thick gold border surrounding the illustration. The reverse has the menu printed within a border of geometric and scrolling ornament. Titled 'CONTINTENTAL Diner du 15 Mai', the meal features eleven dishes served over five courses, and a carafe of Bordeaux wine.
