Description
Rectangular double bed quilt made of hexagonal patchwork pieces. Coloured chintz pieces joined to form rosettes are mounted on a cream background. No edging. A reproduction constructed in 1986 by the Volunteer Guides Sewing Group at Elizabeth Farm from the original nineteenth century quilt with Macarthur provenance now owned by the National Trust of Australia (NSW). Chintz pieces used in this reproduction came from fabric pieces/document material used in the house restoration. The original work comprises hexagonal patches of varied colour and design, predominantly indigo and light blues, pinks, mustard yellow, browns, and a green created by overprinting yellow on blue. The hexagonal rosettes are interspersed with two rows of hexagons of various plain white fabric, using fine stitching and created using the English paper template method.

The original quilt in the possession of the National Trust of Australia (NSW) has been provenanced through the Bowman family & is believed to be the work of Elizabeth Macarthur (1766-1850), original occupant and namesake of Elizabeth Farm at Rosehill, NSW.
